Pune Ploggers Usher in the New Year with a Remarkable Cleanup Drive

Pune Ploggers, the world’s largest plogging community, celebrated a successful year of environmental impact with a spirited cleanup drive on New Year’s Day.

Over 50 enthusiastic Punekars gathered to kick off 2025 by combining fitness with sustainability,

reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner and greener city.

The one-hour drive yielded impressive results, with participants collecting 250 kilograms of waste,

including 220 kilograms of glass alcohol bottles, which will now be recycled. The collected waste was

meticulously sorted into 18+ bags, ensuring proper disposal and recycling.

Environmental Impact:

Recycling the 220 kilograms of glass bottles is expected to prevent approximately 66 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, as recycling glass significantly reduces energy consumption compared to producing new glass from raw materials. This initiative underscores Pune Ploggers’ dedication to combating climate change through grassroots action.

Voices from the Community:

Reflecting on the event, Bhushan More, co-founder of Pune Ploggers, said:

“This drive is a testament to what we can achieve together. By joining cleanups like these, we can change

the city’s littering habits and inspire others to take responsibility for our shared environment. Every

small effort counts, and together, we can create a lasting impact.”

 –  Bhushan more, Cofounder Pune Ploggers

Founder Vivek Gurav added:

“Through initiatives like this and our flagship program ‘PlogYatra,’ we aim to inspire over a million

people to adopt litter-picking as their New Year resolution. Environmental protection starts with

individual actions, and plogging is a fun yet impactful way to contribute.”

 –  Vivek Gurav, Founder Pune Ploggers

A Global Movement:

Pune Ploggers has grown into a global phenomenon, inspiring plogging campaigns in over 30 cities

worldwide. Since its inception in 2019, the community has conducted over 500 cleanup drives, clearing

more than 15,000 tonnes of waste. The group’s innovative approach has not only cleaned public spaces

but also fostered awareness about sustainable living and waste management.

Looking Ahead:

As they step into 2025, Pune Ploggers aim to expand their reach further by engaging more citizens and launching new initiatives. Their vision remains steadfast: to empower individuals and communities to take ownership of their environment and fight climate change one cleanup at a time.
